Chemical Dependency Treatment & Recovery Support

Traditionally, CADS has provided treatment and recovery services to clients referred from the criminal justice system. However, our programs, detailed below, welcome men and women from various walks of life and cultural backgrounds who lack the financial resources to pay for treatment. Find out how to apply for admission into a CADS program here.

CADS Programs Include:

Detoxification
In Santa Clara and Alameda Counties, CADS provides safe, humane detoxification monitored by highly qualified staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  During the detoxification process, the client and counseling staff develop a stabilization treatment plan, which includes the goals of safely stabilizing the client while introducing them to recovery principles. Lengths of stay are based on individual progress and physical status.

Detoxification clients are encouraged to engage in longer-term treatment, thus increasing their chances for maintaining abstinence in the future.

Residential Treatment
CADS' Inpatient Residential Treatment program offers comprehensive education, support and structure for those seeking to recover from addiction and alcoholism. Participants live at one of our residential treatment facilities during this program and participate in a combination of group counseling, educational groups and individual counseling. Lengths of stay are individualized and fit the requirements of referring parties when appropriate. Typically, Residential Treatment lasts 30-60 days, after which clients transition to a less-structured level of care.

Outpatient Treatment
The CADS Outpatient Program gives clients the opportunity to interact with the real world environment while still benefiting from a peer-oriented, structured therapeutic program. Clients' progress is assessed regularly by clinical staff and referral source to determine the length of the program for each participant. Safe, supportive living in our sober living homes is highly recommended during outpatient treatment.

Family Program
CADS emphasizes the importance of family involvement in treatment, not only for the addict/alcoholic, but so that individual family members affected by a loved one's substance abuse receive education and counseling to help them begin their own recovery.  CADS has found that family members need social support and education regarding the various aspects of chemical dependence. Our educational family program, designed to help family members and significant others develop their own recovery tools, takes place on Wednesday nights.

Sober Living/Transitional Housing

Research conducted by CADS has shown that clients who engage in a longer-term recovery program have significant increases in lengths of sobriety, overall quality of life, and  financial status than those who complete more intensive levels of care without follow-up. One of the goals of chemical dependency treatment is to assist individuals in becoming self-sufficient. Our sober living environments are safe, clean, drug-free homes from which clients begin interacting with the community, looking for employment (or continuing at their current job), and further developing their network of recovery support. SLEs are structured so that clients continue to attend community-based self-help groups, working on their personal recovery in conjunction with reintegrating into society.

Aftercare
Recovery is an ongoing process, and it is important for clean and sober people to have lasting support. Our lifetime Aftercare program consists of peer-run groups available for CADS clients who have completed Residential or Outpatient programs. These groups are facilitated by individuals knowledgeable about the issues addicts and alcoholics face as they integrate into society.  Aftercare allows clients to expand their network of peer support, share common experiences, and provide helpful feedback to one another.
